Stephen Hall

HR Consultant

Stephen joined Insight as a Consultant in April 2010 and has over 15 years experience as an HR professional. He is a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development, a Member of the British Psychological Society and is qualified to Level A & B in Occupational Testing (BPS).

After graduating with a degree in Psychology, Stephen developed his HR career as a generalist working in a range of organisations (unionised and non-unionised) across a variety of sectors: retail, in-flight catering, wholesale/distribution, and manufacturing including Corus Steel. His experience has included: mergers and acquisitions; leading integration projects post-acquisition; restructuring; communications and employee engagement; leadership development; policy development and implementation; recruitment and resource planning; and more recently managing culture change programmes.

With Insight HR he has continued to deliver a broad range of HR interventions, which include: managing structural and cultural change programmes; employee engagement projects including survey development, implementation and analysis; carrying out ‘fit for purpose’ reviews of HR departments focusing on service and efficiency improvements; strategic reviews of reward and recognition activities as well as carrying out pay benchmarking exercises; designing and delivering learning events on topics such as leadership, change management, customer excellence, and equality & diversity; executive recruitment; holding an Interim post as Assistant Director Human Resources for a longer-term client, where he was tasked with managing a number of TUPE transfers whilst also transforming the HR department.

Being able to deliver all of this successfully has relied on Stephen's varied and multi-sector experience; his ability to work with organisational leaders to make sense of complex situations and develop and deliver bespoke solutions; his commercial awareness; in addition to his sound project management skills.  As well as a broad and extensive knowledge of HR theory and practice, Stephen also has the knowledge and ability to apply psychological theories and principles to work. This enables Stephen to consider approaches based on empirical evidence and work with clients to tailor interventions to particular organisational issues and cultures.

Stephen would describe himself as an eternal optimist and comes across as an approachable and calming professional. Skilled at influencing without pressure, Stephen’s approach to working with clients is both collaborative and results-focused.
