In the last 12 months, £4.4 billion in redundancy settlements were paid out in the UK, with an average payout equating to £9,362 per person. This is however 2% less than the previous year. With statutory payments capped at £400 per week, up to a maximum of £12,000, many employers are paying far more than they are legally obliged to.
